Ancient Synagogues

The Abuhav Synagogue in Safed dates from the 16th century and stands in the heart of Safed's old city.

The synagogue's dome is decorated with the symbols of the twelve tribes.

The right-hand ark holds an ancient Torah scroll over 500 years old, written according to tradition by Rabbi Yitzhak Abuhav, whose students brought it up to Safed.
